On March 6, 2018, the Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) responded to the scene of a brush fire in East Manatee County. Eighteen firefighters from East Manatee Fire Rescue and the Florida Division of Forestry fought the ten acre fire for several hours. Strong winds caused the fire to spread quickly.
Manatee County EMS also responded to the scene in case any of the firefighters became injured or ill. Due to the temperatures and high humidity, and the time it was taking to fight the fire, personnel on scene knew that additional help was needed. They requested the MRC.
Once on scene, they set up their Medical Aid Station Trailer (MAST) as a rehab station. Volunteers included one RN, one EMT and one logistics team member.
